GuidesFor ScoutersSnaps
Snaps are the raw, unstyled photos a scouter takes when they spot a face. They are the single most important part of any submission: agencies cannot meet the person, so the snaps are the talent. Honest, well-shot snaps get a lot voted up and to auction — flattering, misleading ones waste everyone's time.
Snaps come right after the approach. If you have not read it yet, the Hunting guide covers how to ask for the photos in the first place.
Consent comes first
Never photograph anyone without clear permission. Explain that the snaps are for a scouting submission, where they will be seen, and that the person can say no at any time. Consent is not optional — it is the foundation of every snap you take.
What to capture
Agencies need to read the true face and body, so shoot simply and completely. A good set includes:
- Face — a straight-on headshot and both profiles, neutral expression, hair back.
- Full body — front, side, and back, standing naturally against a plain background.
- Smile — one relaxed, genuine smile to show how the face moves.
- Detail — hands and a closer skin shot when relevant to the brief.
How to shoot
The aim is truth, not glamour. Keep it clean:
- Use natural daylight and avoid harsh shadows or coloured light.
- Find a plain, uncluttered background.
- No makeup, no heavy styling, no filters or retouching.
- Shoot at eye level so proportions stay honest.
- Keep the photos sharp, well-framed, and recent.
Unstyled snaps matter because agencies are casting the real face. Knowing model types helps you frame each person to their strengths — see the Faces guide for what each type needs to show.
Submitting and reviewing snaps
Attach your snaps to the lot when you create it, then review them before publishing as if you were the agency seeing them cold. Cut anything blurry, misleading, or redundant — a tight, honest set beats a large, padded one.
- Pick the sharpest frame for each required angle.
- Remove duplicates and anything heavily styled.
- Check the face reads clearly at a small thumbnail size.
Where snaps fit
Snaps are step three of the scouting loop, between the approach and submitting the lot. For the whole sequence, follow the Instructions guide. Strong snaps also help your lot pass community voting — see the Voting rules guide.
